The full Orchestra of Welsh National Opera will visit Ceredigion in June to perform for the first time at Pafiliwn Bont, Pontrhydfendigaid. The Orchestra will be conducted by Gareth Jones and will be joined by world class soloists Rhys Meirion and Camilla Roberts when they perform at the pavilion on Wednesday 25th June.
The Welsh National Opera are firmly established as Europe's busiest touring opera company and the largest provider of touring opera in the UK. The WNO tour extensively throughout Wales, the UK and internationally, presenting over 120 main scale opera performances annually and performing to over 150,000 people. Although the company have presented trimmed down productions in smaller venues in Ceredigion, the performance in Pontrhydfendigaid will be the first of its kind in the area featuring the full orchestra.
Pafiliwn Bont director Jim O’Rourke has been involved with the WNO in the past and is glad to see the company visit the new venue, he said “we are over the moon to have secured the show as the WNO are one of the world’s best touring opera companies. They have been unable to bring a full scale production to the area in the past due to the lack of a suitable venue, but they are really excited by the prospect of performing in Pafiliwn Bont, and we hope the audience’s enthusiasm will ensure that they will be a regular fixture in the calendar.”
The evening will include music from both opera and operetta by such composers as Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, Strauss, Lehar and Dvorak. The orchestra will be conducted by Gareth Jones and the added bonus is the involvement of two of Wales’ best soloists, as Jim O’Rourke said “Rhys Meirion’s outstanding tenor voice is highly regarded worldwide, whilst Camilla Roberts, won the Welsh Singers Competition in 2004 – we are really lucky to have them performing”.
