Jennifer Pike
Celebrated Classical musicians join The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland on its stellar Summer Tour 2008.
This year’s summer tour by The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland promises to be a celestial affair as two of Britain’s brightest classical music stars join the ensemble as it performs at four high profile venues throughout the UK.
NYOS is also delighted to welcome violinist Jennifer Pike, who joins the orchestra for a special performance of Max Bruch’s ravishing Violin Concerto. Jennifer has enjoyed meteoric success in the classical music world since becoming one of the youngest ever winners of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition at the age of twelve. Jennifer was also the first classical musician to win the prestigious South Bank Show Breakthrough Artist Award, which she won in January 2008.
Garry Walker is renowned for his thoughtful and wide-ranging programming and this year’s NYOS Summer Tour programme is no exception. Working with NYOS Chief Executive Julian Clayton, Garry has prepared a colourful repertoire, which promises to demonstrate the impressive versatility of the young ensemble. Audiences can expect to be taken on a complex emotionally journey, from the rich melancholy of Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem, through Bruch’s romantic and decadent Violin Concerto, finally closing with the intense ambiguity of Shostakovitch’s famed Symphony No 6.
The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland – experience the future of classical music.
