Percussion Instruments Guide

Percussion instruments include the drum, cymbals, triangle, xylophone, and chimes. It's likely that percussion instruments were originally played on their own, just like they often are in African and other musical cultures. Often, percussion instruments are used to set the rhythm or keep a pulse for an entire orchestra or group.

A pulse is an essential part of music, because it keeps check on the music just as the heart relates to the human body, and the planets relate to the universe. There's a natural rhythm at work, and the percussion instruments are there to keep it going.
