New Website Promotes Better Pay for Private Music Teachers
A new online tutor directory has launched that will help music teachers maintain a higher wage. The Tutor Pages (www.thetutorpages.com) works by inviting tutors to specify their own rates and then justify them by writing a short article related to their expertise. Students then get in touch with the teacher directly through the site. The Tutor Pages is already proving to be a hit with both students and parents. They can compare teachers in their local area by price and expertise, and then contact them at no cost. Not only that, but the hundreds of articles written by tutors have also made it both a helpful and fascinating site to browse. The Tutor Pages lists teachers of all musical instruments across every musical style. It also covers academic subjects and languages at all levels, from the early years to higher education. Other topics range from business skills to reiki and advanced motoring. Since its launch earlier this year, the service has been expanding rapidly, with over 200 new tutors signing up a month. Each week there are hundreds of enquiries from potential students across the UK. Teachers pay a nominal fee to upload their profile, with the site currently offering half-price membership of £9.49 per year until September 2008. Throughout the year, teachers are able to edit their details and upload documents, such as CVs or letters of recommendation. Since there are no agency fees involved, teachers benefit from direct payment from students. The site has received positive comments from teachers, students and also the communications department of The Royal College of Music. Timothy Anderson, one student who needed to learn classical organ, had tried other websites but without success. “The Tutor Pages provided me with a solution”, he commented. “ I was able to read the teacher’s article about his recent concert tour, and so get some background information about him before getting in touch.” For more details see www.thetutorpages.com.
